Millions of people rely on railroads to efficiently travel from place to place.  It’s no secret the tracks these trains run on are located in harsh environments near high power lines and other man-made contributors to poor power quality. Since the tracks themselves act as conductors for lightning events, surge protection proves to be a vital contributor to the reliable operation of trains.

As the professional Mobile Communications world grapples with determining the direction for land mobile networks, a small but growing number of mission critical network managers are looking to Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) services for LTE offering Push-to-Talk Over- Cellular (PoC) as an enticing offering for non-public safety needs.  Aging analog LMR (Land Mobile Radio) infrastructure needing replacement or significant upgrades, coupled with limited financial resources make PTT services attractive. MCPTT will likely gain more traction as services meeting 3GPP standard are rolled out beginning in 2017.

Improper grounding accounts for a large percentage of damage and misoperation of sensitive electronic equipment.  Multi-grounding renders equipment susceptible to lightning induced transient over-voltages as well as steady-state noise caused by ground loop currents.  These problems can be avoided by implementing a single-point grounding system and following the National Electrical Code.
